Ever since i can remember, i have hated my fine, fluffy hair. I was bought my first pair of hair straighteners when i was fourteen and i have never looked back.
For seven years my poor hair has been pulled,barrel-brushed and fried to within an inch of its life, just to beat the 'bouf'.
Occasionally, i would leave my hair to it's own devices because i couldn't be bothered with the hour long rigmaroll of blow-drying and straightening. Left to dry naturally, my hair turns into an unruly, curly mop. Curls in random shapes and sizes spring out in all directions. Some are frizzy and just look like fluff, others are perfectly formed corkscrews. Serums and leave in curl products don't seem to do anything. Sometimes, by a fluke chance, it would look nice, but nine times out of ten i would end up tying it back and wishing i had spent the extra time straightening it.
So when i realized that a hair dressers just down the road from me was offering a certain straightening treatment i had heard so much about, i jumped at the chance to be saved from my time consuming, curly afro-mop.
The Keratin Complex is a specially formulated revitalising and rejuvenating treatment for the hair that eliminates up to 95% of frizz and curl. The advanced patent pending formulation restores and restructures hair by infusing a special blend of natural keratin deep into the cuticle. The curlier and more processed the hair, the better the results. You can also still have it coloured two weeks before or two weeks after the treatment, and sun, sea and chlorine won't effect it.
Unlike the Brazilian Blow dry, a similar treatment popular in the States, it is completely natural and healthy, i.e no toxic chemicals are released when you have it done.
So basically, it sticks all the health lost by colouring, blow-drying and straightening back into your hair, leaving it soft, shiny and healthy. The bonus is the fact that whilst banishing frizz it also smoothes and straightens.
So what is my verdict?
Well, it didn't take as long as i imagined it would. I arrived at 9.30 am and was out by 12.
The hair is separated into sections and painted with the keratin complex which actually smells quite pleasant although distinctly chemical. It is then left on, covered with a plastic cap, for 45 minutes. This was fine, as i just read a magazine and had a cappuccino.
The hair is then blow-dried (the product is left in) and then straightened with the flat iron.
The result was really quite astonishing; my hair was smooth, straight and very shiny. It also looked a lot thicker and healthier.
The only annoying part is the fact that i can't mess my hair up, get it wet, or tie it up for three days. So no tucking behind ears, no kirby grips, and no elastic bands!
But to be honest, with my hair feeling so healthy and soft, i'm not really too bothered.
